Letterbook, 1863 May-1864 Dec., containing copies of official outgoing correspondence written by Lt. Samuel Huse while in command of the U.S.Str. Shockokon and U.S.Str. Brittania, on duty off the Virginia and North Carolina coasts. In them he discusses such matters as the blockade, fighting, shipboard discipline, ship's maintenance, etc. Correspondents include: Guert Gansevoort, Samuel Phillips Lee, John W. Livingston, David D. Porter, and Gideon Welles.
